About the Tour
Tour Introduction To a town that lives with Mt. Fuji
Trace the stories of prayer and craftsmanship
alive at the foot of Mt. Fuji
Fujiyoshida has flourished since ancient times as the gateway to Mt. Fuji worship. In the Edo period, members of pilgrim groups called Fuji-ko gathered here from all over Japan. They stayed at the houses of oshi (pilgrim guides) to purify themselves, then set out for the summit from Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine. Memories of those prayers still live on throughout the town.
This is a private one-day tour that explores the history and culture of Fujiyoshida in a chartered Kiwa Taxi vehicle. Departing from Fuji Lake Hotel, we guide you in turn to sites connected with Mt. Fuji worship: the Former Togawa Family Residence, Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine and the Yoshida-guchi Trail.
For lunch, enjoy Yoshida no Udon, a dish loved by local people. Its firm, chewy noodles and simple flavor are the very taste of everyday life in Fujiyoshida. In the afternoon, take part in a weaving culture experience unique to this town of textiles with over 1,000 years of history. Visit a workshop and enjoy a moment with the handiwork of skilled craftspeople.
All travel is by private taxi, so there is no need to worry about transfers or timetables. The tour is for small groups (2 to 5 people), so you can relax with family and friends and travel at your own pace.
Having run a taxi business in Fujiyoshida for many years, we can show you scenery and stories that only locals know. Spend a day discovering the real Fujiyoshida, which you would never see just by visiting the usual tourist spots.
